What operating system is right for us? Windows 7, Vista or XP? The answers are complicated and depend on many factors. Nobody knows the truth. A mobile operating system is designed to control a mobile device like a smartphone and is similar in principle to the operating system that controls a computer or laptop. In the UK, the smartphone market is dominated by apples’ IOS, Google’s Android and RIM Blackberry. The global share of mobile operating system market is divided as follows according to latest statistics from Gartner:

* Android – 33%
* Apple 16%
* RIM 14%
* Symbian 31%
* Other – 6%

A clear trend is the rapid growth in the number of mobile operating systems have been developed for intelligent mobile phones instead of traditional roles. These figures show the global market share of different operating systems and any consideration of these figures must be borne in mind that using Symbian in smartphones is very limited and will soon be obsolete as a platform Nokia system becomes Windows Mobile in place.
